“Miniature Lighthouse” is a black and white image of a lighthouse on location in Engelhard, NC.  It is actually a miniature version of a lighthouse that is attached to a pump station on Lake Mattamuskeet. The lighthouse reflects perfectly onto the water, a beautiful mirror image including the trees that circle the building. The building is actually being turned into a lodge.

Limited edition set of 200, unframed

The Lake Mattamuskeet Pump Station is a historic water control and pumping station located in Hyde County, North Carolina, United States. The station was built in the early 20th century as part of a larger project to drain the Lake Mattamuskeet and create fertile farmland in the surrounding area.

The Lake Mattamuskeet Pump Station was designed and built by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and was one of the largest and most technologically advanced pumping stations of its time. The station was equipped with steam-powered pumps that could move over 4 million gallons of water per day, making it possible to drain the lake in a relatively short period of time.

The project to drain Lake Mattamuskeet was a massive undertaking, and it transformed the region from a vast, swampy lake into a productive agricultural area. The pump station played a key role in this transformation and helped to make the area a thriving agricultural center.

Today, the Lake Mattamuskeet Pump Station is a historic landmark, and visitors can tour the station and learn about its history and impact on the region. The pump station is located in the heart of the Lake Mattamuskeet National Wildlife Refuge, which is a popular destination for birdwatching and wildlife viewing.
